Bachelor of Arts

Full form of BA is Bachelor of Arts. BA is an undergraduate course that is usually of three years duration. Candidates can pursue a BA course right after their Class 12. B.A. (general) is an undergraduate course. It can be defined as a broad subdivision of culture composed of many expressive disciplines. The course can be pursued either as a full-time graduate course or part-time graduate course i.e. through correspondence or distance education depending upon one’s choice. B.A. is often referred to as simply B.A. or B.A. Pass Course. It is general in the sense that it is not subject Specific and one can choose a number of combinations of subjects, apart from 1-2 Compulsory Subjects. These combinations vary from institute to institute. These subjects can from the Liberal Arts, the Sciences, or both. Normally, a candidate needs to study 5-6 Subjects 1–2 Compulsory and 3 Electives in 6 Semesters.

Arts students have the option to choose to major and minor in English, French, any other linguistics course, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, History, Religious Studies and more subject areas. The duration of the course is three years, however, in some countries; this duration is 4 years especially in Canada, Japan, the Russian Federation, Scotland, United States etc. In India and other countries like some of the European Union countries, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore etc. have 3 years of duration of the course. Those candidates who are unable to clear it in 3 years can clear it in a certain number of years depending upon the education policy. Most of the Institutes offer a change of Elective Subjects in the 2nd year depending upon one’s performance or choice. Certain Institutes admit students who have passed 1st or the 2nd year from another institute depending upon fulfilment of the institute’s rules and regulations.

B.A. Course is one of the oldest known courses and the most common course provided by almost all the educational institutes.

Eligibility for B.A.

  • Students passing successfully out of their H.S.C. examinations (10+2) from a recognized Education Board with Science, Arts or Commerce stream can opt for Bachelor of Arts.
  • Generally, 50% of marks are required but the percentage may vary from state to state and from institute to institute.

Master of Arts

The program is available in various subjects including various languages such as English, Hindi and other regional languages and foreign languages. There are 4 or 5 Papers which one has to pass in order to acquire M.A. Masters Degree Programs in Arts involves lectures, examination, and seminars. Masters Degree in Arts is provided all over India in various Universities. Some of the most popular universities in India are Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, Alagappa Universities, Andhra University, Assam University etc. Master of Arts Course is also available through Correspondence or Distance Education.

Eligibility:

The candidate applying for M.A. should have completed bachelor’s degree in respective subject with Honours. There are some entrance exams conducted by the colleges or universities for getting admission to M.A. The candidate should clear the exam with good marks. The candidate also faces personal interview. After clearing these criteria successfully, the candidate can get admission to respective university or college.

Science

Bachelor of Science

Bachelor of Science degree programs generally last 3 to 4 years depending upon the country. In India, the duration of Bachelor of Science Degree spans over a period of 3 years. A person seeking the Science Degree needs to study 5 subjects. There are limited number of combinations of subjects one can opt for depending upon the availability of choices in various Institutes. It is popularly known as B.Sc. or B.S. which is an abbreviated form of the Science Degree. Science degrees offer very specified knowledge about certain subject areas, usually in one of the three main science fields of Chemistry, Biology or Physics. Bachelor of Science Degree Course is designed to develop graduates with the key practical skills and interdisciplinary knowledge. The students are involved in completing pre-planned lab work based on text books and reading and adapting to well known theories. Commerce

Bachelor of Commerce

Bachelor of Commerce is an Undergraduate Academic Degree awarded for a course or program in Commerce.  It is popularly known as B.Com. which is an abbreviated form of the Commerce Degree. Bachelor of Commerce degree programs generally last 3 to 4 years depending upon the country. In India, the duration of Bachelor of Commerce Degree spans over a period of 3 years. A person seeking the Science Degree needs to study 5 subjects. There are limited number of combinations of subjects as compared to Arts stream. One can opt for various combinations depending upon the availability of choices in various Institutes. Bachelor of Commerce is considered the second option for those who are not that good in Science and those who think that Arts Degree is of less importance as compared to Commerce. So the students who are not able to make it in science stream generally opt for Commerce as per the Indian Trend. Bachelor of Commerce course is offered in many different disciplines to train candidates in a particular field. The degree provides the students with a wide range of managerial skills and competence in a particular area of Commerce. Master of Commerce

Eligibility:

Masters of Commerce degree requires a candidate to have passed Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com). Some Institutes put the age limit to 20 years. Admission is done through an Entrance Test.
